FAQ
- What is #TBD?
- #TBD is a South African national charity drive managed and supported by the local Twitter community. "#TBD" is the Twitter hashtag that you can use to look up all related posts and information. "#TBD" is the acronym for "Twitter Blanket Drive".
- How does it work?
- The idea is for "Tweeps" to meet up ("tweetup") at venues around the country on the same day, at the same time to share a warm cup of coffee – and to donate a blanket or two.
- How can I participate?
- There are 4 ways to participate and show your support:
- RSVP and attend a Tweetup. Don’t forget to bring a blanket to donate.
- Host a Tweetup. Help with arrangements, logistics and liaise with the venue sponsor. Report back on attendance and number of items collected on the evening. (You still need to donate a blanket J)
- Sponsor a Tweetup venue. Our Tweeps will be cold and would appreciate a warm, dry place to meet up and socialise a bit. Coffee is critical. Anything else is a bonus. We’ll reciprocate by promoting your establishment on Twitter and on www.twitterblanketdrive.co.za
- Make a donation direct to any of the selected charities for #TBD 2011. A full list of venue-related charities will be published as soon as they are confirmed. Please note that #TBD *is not* an NGO or official charity organisation – no cash donations should be made to any person representing #TBD. This is viewed as fraudulent and therefore illegal.
- Can I only donate blankets?
- No. You can donate blankets and clothing. New or used.
- Can I donate 2nd hand items?
- Can I donate cash instead of blankets?
- Yes, but only directly to the selected charities for #TBD 2011. We will publish links to their websites or make their banking details available to you via www.twitterblanketdrive.co.za. Please note that #TBD *is not* an NGO or official charity organisation – no cash donations should be made to any person representing #TBD. This is viewed as fraudulent and therefore illegal.
- I have been told to visit another website for details, is this information credible?
- Most probably not. The official #TBD website is www.twitterblanketdrive.co.za which will contain correct and updated information as it becomes available. Any rogue websites should be reported to us via the comments section on the official webpage so that we can guide our supporters accordingly.
- #TBD has many loyal supporters who actively blog about the initiative or promote the events in other online forums. You should reciprocate their effort by retweeting links to their pages and sites, but always refer only to www.twitterblanketdrive.co.za for official information updates.
- I have received email communication from NAME@twitterblanketdrive.co.za – is this dodgy?
- No. Only official Tweetup hosts are assigned @twitterblanketdrive.co.za email addresses. If you have further concerns and if the email sender is requesting cash donations please log this as a complaint on www.twitterblanketdrive.co.za on the comments section. Do not give cash to ANY person representing #TBD.
- How are charities selected and approved?
- Once a venue is confirmed, and a Twitter host assigned – the host is responsible for selecting a local charity who will best benefit from the blankets and/or clothing received at the Tweetup.
- The host will consult the Twitterverse for suggestions relevant to them and will then make the final decision on 1 (one) charity. 1 charity maximum is selected per event. The host is responsible for ensuring that the charity is legitimate.
- The approved charity will then be showcased on www.twitterblanketdrive.co.za with links to their websites where available.
- How will we know the results of the drive?
- Venue hosts are responsible for counting all items received at their respective events and reporting these numbers (attendance and donations) to the organiser (@melanieminnaar) within 48 hours of the close of the event.
- The details of the collection will be published live on www.twitterblanketdrive.co.za.
